90k on my 2.0 CRTDI and not a single problem. I drive it like I would drive anything else. You must have mexican cars over in Europe.

They're just louder. When I first bought it I thought I was going to have a HPFP failure because that's all I could read on the internet. Turns out people are just dumb and put gas in their cars.
The same is true when toyota had the "unintended acceleration" problem, which was just people pressing the wrong pedal. …
Here in America, we don't pay different rates to service different fuel burning types. Shop rates are shop rates regardless.
There's tax incentives to buy fuel efficient cars.
The oil costs the same as any other car, it's just diesel spec.
The brakes are smaller than the GTI on the TDI (at least for now) so there is…
The only big peripheral is the DPF, which if it functions correctly, doesn't need to be replaced for over 150k miles. There's no urea injection or anything else. You put fuel in the tank, and you drive, you change the oil every 10k, fuel filter every 20k, and you keep driving it.
If you're looking at the average time…
Why is the service cost 30% higher? There are no spark plugs to change, synthetic oil is the same price, filters are the same price, fuel filters get replaced every 20k just like the gassers...
There's nothing more expensive about operating a diesel aside from fuel cost. I'd even wager that due to the lack of more…
There are DSG tunes that raise that limit as well as lots of other fun things. Like getting rid of the auto up shift, displaying current gear in any drive mode, increasing the rev limit to actually 5k, etc.
Bought my TDI brand new (3m on the odo) in 2010. It's about to turn 90k miles and hasn't given me one problem, aside from a few flat tires.
I maintain it myself because it's cheap and easy.
I average 40 in my golf TDI so it will be a while before I switch to anything different. I'm sure in another 10 years the rest of the car market will be up there, but until then, i'm stuck in the golf. Which isn't really that bad, it's a great little car.
That's still terrible fuel mileage. Until they bring something that gets 36+ combined it's not worth the premium.
I would love to drive a volvo, I just can't afford to. I've said it a bunch but I want my next car to be the current gen v60 because it's sexy as hell and has tons of room. But, it gets terrible mileage and they don't offer the diesel hybrid in the states (even though that puts it even farther out of my price range).
…
I considered the C30 a few years back when I was looking at hatches, and the price bump wasn't worth it over the VW's. Neither was the Audi price bump. The options for the money weren't worth it at all.
I think Volvo might be able to do a little better in the marketplace is they brought in their diesel lineup. A touch…
They went from semi-affordable to absurdly expensive. The window sticker price on the 740 wagon my friend bought from an old lady years ago was in the mid 30's, for a early 90's volvo. I've seen window stickers from 242's in the 30's back in the early 80's.
Sure you could get one second hand for mid teens, but even…
Doing a long project would make these pretty nice. Comfortable space underneath isn't something to laugh at.
But when that happens, you would ask the delivery person to give you back change in 1's, not just expect him to understand what you want without discussion.
There goes that pesky reliability thing again....
if you're really looking at the numbers though, the only thing you get for that price bump is 4 rings and leather seats. I had the same thought when I was building my tdi, and realized it would be silly to go for the audi because you don't get much more for the money.
Or get some Johnson's Paste Wax and rub it on there. The stuff is magic. Great for everything, from drawer slides to tablesaw tops.
I'd like to suggest that in addition to vent windows in the front, any 2 door hatch/coup with a window between the B\C pillar, have a pop out hinge on the back of it so you can crack them open. Helps airflow in a 2 door when the windows are down, quiets buffeting, is badass.
You are the silliest person on the internet.
I understand that you read some articles a few days ago and think that you now know everything, but seriously... Antilag doesn't happen at start, launch control does.
