I agree with you on the in-app purchases being cosmetic, there is talk of a mode where you can construct your own Mushroom Kingdom? That will probably be where they come in. “Buy Bowser’s Castle! Buy Peach’s Castle! Buy Bowser Jr’s Airship! Buy Waluigi’s Stinky Sewer!” That kind of stuff.

Presumably that “in-app purchases” line is referring to the one-time unlock fee that was mentioned. That’s different from microtransactions.

Not all in-app purchases are microtransactions.

Didn’t think of it on the other article, but could this mean the return of a surfing Pikachu/Raichu mini-game!? I’d be down to do some Pokemon surfing, and it very much fits the region’s inspiration.
