Only in rare cases where something is unarguably video game related and assuredly awesome.

For the record, I used this image because I liked the picture, but I personally do not agree with the little notes on it. I mean I look at those arms and think "skinny". I've seen flabby arms. I have family members with flabby arms. Those in that picture are NOT flabby arms.

Duly noted. (Haven't seen that one, but will remember that name)

Now finish him off with some AKB48! It'll kawaii him to double death, bro! ;)

Yeah. Hard to argue that.

Ever read the webcomic "Something Positive" by any chance? Remember the whole "cat girl" story arc which caused Wil Wheaton to lose his left arm?

What's wrong with Fujoshi?! Those girls are cute as hell!

You know, until I saw that this was about "The Swimming Anime", I actually thought this article was going to be about this:

Well I never said anything against cutting out existing markets and franchises. Anita herself said that despite Princess Peach being the Ur Example of the Damsel In Distress Trope, she still has fond memories and gets general enjoyment out of the Mario games.

Funny thing is that the reason you give for not choosing rational discourse with irrational people is the very reason I choose TO use rational discourse with irrational people: their reactions can't be predicted.

I'm not sure I follow. Could you elaborate please?

Thank you! :) I try. (Well, not always, but I normally do.)

And if Tropes vs. Women in Video Games was being presented by Kotaku, it probably would be adjusted to the level that Kotaku usually presents its articles to its readers. However, since TvWiVG isn't, then they can make it as high-brow or low-brow as they please since they are doing their own thing.

Far be it from me to defend the original post or to argue with your interpretation of what they said. I can understand why you'd be frustrated and upset at what they wrote.

My take is that this video series will be a critical look at the roles women play in video games. Not so much as game makers, but female characters in video game fiction. The Damsel in Distress trope is the first to be examined, and by analyzing and breaking it down, we can see how it's really gotten kind of stale

I disagree.

Like I've been saying, it's a Catch-22 that requires effort on both fronts:

Let's not get ourselves heated up to the point where we start going into knee-jerk reactions. I read other comments from this person and they admit they didn't quite phrase themselves as well as they probably could have.

Personally, I think that this looks like an excellent series for use in college courses and academics. I'd even love to see it used in High Schools too.

Just because you can create a female avatar does not necessarily mean anything because the avatar is NOT a character. (Not counting "The Avatar" from Ultima, but that's a title and not a noun.) RPGs that allow for user created characters often don't have characters of their own because the player fills in the role,
