First, I've never said she deserved it. Never. In fact, if you've read this entire thread, I've said that the backlash has been incredible and nothing she deserves at all.

Meddlesome little shits is the perfect label for them. I spent half the morning watching mine chirp at birds on the balcony. I'm convinced she's trying to trick them into her mouth.

Where's the love for gingers?

Maine Coons are the bestest. I have one and she is my world.

Amen. Sex is hilarious. Can you imagine a world where it was taken seriously all the time? What an odd, disturbing world that would be.

Dogs can tell when you're moving and they become so full of anxiety. My grandpa used to say that it is every animal's worst fear that they will be abandoned by their pack and I think it is true.

Did you read the part where she said, "and jezebel’s article opened me up to a bunch of really shitty fatphobia that i’d rather not deal with on a lighthearted hobby project."

No apologies, required, friend.

Agree. 100%.

I've wanted systemic change before, as well. It does not come from overreacting and making a fool of oneself. As a woman, I believe this makes us look overly sensitive. There are real things to stand up for (rape, women's reproductive rights, pay inequality, etc.) is two people talking during a conference something to

So. much. truth.

She still handled the situation wrongly. Even SendGrid says she handled the situation poorly!

To me feminism means proving your worth by making others notice you, rather than bashing in the world with a "look at me!" approach.

It does. As a woman fighting for equality in my own field, I see that equality comes also with great responsibility. I agree, as a woman, that I can make jokes that my male counterparts cannot; at least cannot without losing their jobs or becoming the "office creep."

I really don't get from the scenario described that they were joking about women being sex objects. If such a thing had occurred, I believe my feelings wold be different.

Thanks for agreeing with me! =) It seems most on this article do not!

It sounded from an article another Jezzie posted that she has been asked to speak at several conferences. That led me (and I'll concede, I probably don't know much and am, therefore, easily impressed) to believe that she may be of some degree of influence in the field.

It hasn't. I'm a woman. I know a few men who it would make highly uncomfortable, though.

It isn't. Posting pics of them is. Imagine (please, I don't think we are, as a collective, looking at the converse of this) a man taking a picture of the two ladies I discussed. The internetz would be going batshit right now.

I'd rather not disclose, as saying would make immediately noticeable both my profession and area public. Suffice it to say, it is a male dominated field, controlled in the south by the good ol' boys' club. That may even provide enough to guess! =D
