There’s competition within about every hobby and skill out there- it’s a little strange that you can’t comprehend one for magic enthusiasts.

They get counted. And due to their popularity, a thoughtful personalized letter (if one gets around to sending it) could get lost in the mire. This is why being one of a hundred thousand signatures can often be more effective than a single personalized letter/tweet/etc

I think they have been for awhile? There’s certainly a lot of filler but they’ve had good investigative and long form journalism going for years now. By comparison, some of the most disappointing journalism I’ve read this year was from Mother Jones and a few other highly-regarded sites.

yeah “fake news” has been the new “safe space” in conservative-speak. It would be fascinating if it wasn’t so frustrating.
