Their reputation for litigiousness aside, is there a path you can imagine that would have Nintendo, protective of the child-safety of several of their franchises, agree to work with a developer making a game where the characters of one of those franchises are murdered?

Judging by the votes and comments on this article, the majority of people reading game reviews are here to learn about the game, and not the author. There is a place for this article (blog post), and it is not in the game reviews section.

You can write a great personal recommendation for a game without resorting to a title clearly written to piss people off.

as a frosthaven backer i couldn’t be more amped for this game. the major weakness of gloomhaven is the boilerplate fantasy narrative, and literally any effort expended to add a bit of nuance to that is welcome—especially considering how sophisticated the tactical gameplay is.

I’m also encouraged whenever a large figure in the boardgaming community takes a stand like this. It’s depressing how entrenched racism and bigotry are within the hobby. But it can be a bit of a joy seeing those who react negatively to inclusion expressing how they now feel excluded. Good. 

That is a really encouraging fact. He has enough anticipation built up to simply not care about this stuff, and yet he’s allocating resources and getting the outsider perspectives needed to undo decades old fantasy tropes. That is how you move towards change
