The US Marshall's have conceded that there was a strip search - not a cavity. Someone unfamiliar with the differences, it could have been easy for Mrs. Khobragade to misidentify what occurred. And once again, where is the indignity for her maid? She allegedly broke US law, she is subject to US procedure.

Yep. This conversation is continually being derailed.

Are we really going to discuss mundane parking tickets when this woman allegedly lied to the State Department, paid a maid 3.31/hour, and made her work 60+ hours a week with little to no time off?

Apples and oranges. She had far better treatment than most Americans receive. The arresting officers waited hours at

A lot of countries diplomats don't pay parking tickets, not just the US. New York is owed $17 million in unpaid diplomatic parking tickets. Yearly.
And I think an important distinction needs to be made. This woman is not afforded diplomatic immunity. She has consulate immunity. The Vienna Convention was not

This is the best way I've seen this explained. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the distinction. In my other posts on this subject, I specified strip searches instead of cavity searches. I got ahead of myself on this post.

Apologies.

I would expect for US Diplomats and Consulate members to uphold the laws of the country their inhabiting. If they don't, then by all means...

And quite frankly, this has nothing to do with American Imperialism and everything to do with the fact that what this woman did was wrong.

She lied on a visa application,

Cavity searches are standard procedure. This woman paid a maid 3.31/hour and lied on a Visa application.

This woman was not abused. She was never handcuffed until she got into the courthouse (which is a luxury most arrestees don't have), was stripped searched (just like everyone else is upon entering any US prison or jail facility, for the prisoner's and guard's safety), and was released on bond after a few hours.

There was a conversation in GT earlier today about why we are so up in arms about the strip search (which is standard operating procedure), when we should be outraged about the fact that this lady lied on a visa, and willingly paid someone 3.31/hour - which is blatantly against the law. I'm just going to copy what I

Capital Hill. You know he's getting a discount.

I was gonna comment on how that's a cheap ass two bedroom in DC...but all these other awesome people beat me to it.

I completely agree with you despite what these other people are saying. Women in comics empowered and degraded at the same time. I'll save my rant about costumes and poses for another day.

Mwahahaha!!

He'll never have another bodyguard like Wendi.

Fox News is not under attack and that segment was not a joke. No newscaster spends that much time (a full 5 minute segment) and that many people (there were what? 3 other people talking with her) on a joke.

People called her out on her comments and instead of woman-ing up and taking responsibility for the words that

I am so using that in everyday conversation

That is all.
