My wife’s stepfather was a Platoon sergeant in an Army airborne unit in ‘62. He said they were 15 minutes from jumping when the stand down order came.  

I actually had a civil defense class as part of the curriculum in the 70s.

It was a little tense for a minute, but nobody ever thought the soviets were crazy. It was easy to believe it was an error in judgment. Incidentally this was the impetus to allow civilians to have GPS.

It’s a colossal failure of leadership that it ever got this far.

I respect your opinion but have to disagree, at least as far as I personally am concerned. I know NK isn’t an existential threat to the US, and even as a child in the 70s I knew that the USSR was. They specify a Dexos compatible oil, which is their standard, that any full synthetic you are probably familiar with should meet (Mobil, Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol Syntec etc). There are some Dexos compatible blends, e.g. Quaker State.

Whatever you do don’t ask an old man about oil recommendations unless you know he keeps up with the technology. I still hear “Quaker State sludges up!” even though that hasn’t been true in decades. Any API certified oil that meets current certification standards is fine for the vast majority of cars.

Totally starred for the oil comment. People need to learn what API means. Oil is so much better now than it used to be it isn’t funny, and there really isn’t any such thing as a non synthetic blend anymore.
