Oh, FFS, let's do this again: there already exist web video players that display vertical video without any black bands, by detecting and adjusting to the portrait orientation. It's an issue with the *player*. The only different between a vertical image and a vertical video is that the video moves.

The black bars are obviously a problem with the player, not with the video. I've started to see web video players that respect portrait orientation (maybe here in Kinja, if memory serves) so it won't be a problem for long. Seriously, deal the fuck with it, don't be an angry asshole, and join the 21st Century.

Again, if it's not a problem with portrait pictures, it isn't for video either.
