It's Chavant, the same oil-based clay that's been used for centuries to make maquettes. Protip: if you put rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip it will smooth out the surface beautifully.

I agree too. I started out super-psyched and then very quickly felt let down. It probably didn't help that I'd just read 'Skippy Dies' right before, which is one of the most powerful books I've read in years, but regardless, I thought Quentin was a boring hero and maybe waving the magic TV wand can make him more fun.
