tapping my fingers while impatiently waiting for the EV Microbus

meh. More excited about Opel Speedsters and Smart Roadsters becoming importable in ~6 years.

the only thing really getting “long in the tooth” about the i3 is it’s adaptive cruise control. It’s camera based and through a combination of conservative tuning (doesn’t follow car in front closely enough) and inherent limitations (de-activates if driving towards bright sun) not very useful. Also no blind spot

pro: it has a hatchback and easier entry/egress than the 3

Sure but the MV is punching a bigger hole than an audi wagon so probably a wash.

Towing a ~3000lb popup camper with our Town and Country sees HW mpg go from about 25 to 18, so your math checks out.

EVs and hybrids. We have the technology.

I’d argue that the BMW i3 is “reasonably sporty and quite attainable with 1st gen (60-70 reliable miles of range) BEVs around for not much more than $10k, and 2nd gen (110-130 miles) for under 20k.

wheelbase looks long enough for a 4-door version.

I’m sure this will help sales since people are convinced that they need AWD on a vehicle that will NEVER venture off road (see Subarus in TX) when really a set of winter tires and some driving sense would do just fine.

they were both lip syncing so lungs only had to breath

nah I hate Trump and they showed too much crotch for prime-time TV.

Same thought process I had leasing an i3 BEV 1.5 yrs ago (on pace to fill its 30k/3 yr term). Has worked beautifully as a companion to our Town and Country, charging at my office or occasionally at home. Wife and I swap cars fairly evenly so we both get to enjoy the EV goodness. For an everyday driver I never want to

lol 3900lbs! Chevy Camaros weigh about the same and have approximately 1/4 the interior space, outward visibility, and charm.

that’s the Gen II Soul EV.

Haven’t driven one but feel like not enough is being made of the 291lbft of torque (assuming that’s accurate).

I asked a coworker here in houston why he bought a Subaru. Said “4wd has better traction around curves in the rain”. This was not an sti either, some low power wagon. Subaru and trump have a lot in common: both are genius at selling bs to the scared and gullible.

same here.  Guessing it has something to do with the fancy gas/electric drivetrain.  They’ve had 3+ years to test it’s compatibility with towing, either they figure the take-rate with tow package is so small it’s not worth it, or it keeps grenading.

For someone that only tows with their daily driver occasionally a plug in hybrid would be a great TV. Like the Pacifica Hybrid. Which unfortunately is rated to tow exactly 0 lbs.

The i3 is a truly great car (love my blessed 2018 bev), but not as a person/families only car, in america at least.  Possible yes, but much better suited as a garage mate to an ICE or hybrid if you at least semi regularly have to drive more than ~125 miles per day.
