Yes, I realize that they are not, literally, the same person. Lena the person is very self-promotional, especially via social media, so I'm not sure what the point is of suggesting that I'm confusing her with her character. Why are you so offended by my remark, out of curiosity? Just do be clear, I'm a big fan of

I can be a cynic, granted. Sadly, however, I don't think it's ludicrous to suspect this sort of self-involved, attention craving motivation from Lena.

Does speculation about the Dunham tweet really come across as a ridiculous conspiracy theory? It seems to me more like entertainment industry business as usual cronyism. Remember how Lena plugged Jez (which has given the show a lot of good press) in the last Girls episode? I wish I could see Lena as above this kind of

Sometimes the unexplained does happen. I think that people are tempted to make fun of these situations-because much of the time some mitigating factor (drugs, hoax, mental illness, etc.)is involved. On rarer occasions, however, it is just an unexplained event that happened. And that's O.K.

Looks like a great lifehack to me!

I thought that it was because of broad hips?

Good point. Thanks for this perspective. I think that people are annoyed at how disingenuous she is about the whole thing, but you are right that her options are fairly limited by societal expectations to begin with.

Not me. I want a sizable younger workforce around so that my husband and I might have a chance to collect some SSI benefits. :\

I can really relate to this. Because of my body type and general non-athleticism (pear shaped, bottom heavy 34yo female without much natural muscle tone), I'm mediocre at best at all athletic activities. I run, but I'll always be slow-ish. I do yoga, but I probably won't excel at or look awesome doing any of the cool

Yeah, I get this from some of my former grad school colleagues, most of whom (the women) are childfree by choice. I have a Ph.D., but there is this judgmental vibe sometimes that because I have a family, I must not be as serious/committed/successful about my career.

I hear you. There is a self-righteousness and snark that can seep into these "yay childfree" type articles (NOT all of them, of course.). It's tiring. Live and let live, to each their own!

I do think that is exactly the point of stories like this. The guilt I felt over letting my toddler eat chocolate ice cream for breakfast and watch The Avengers all morning while I nursed a hangover? Poof!

You never know. There are always some zingers around here.

That's true. The other one was way more thought-provoking.

It's the playing an instrument factor. Race may very well be a subtext, however Maddonna, Britney, Katy Perry, etc. have also been classified as "entertainer" or "performer" along these lines.

I understand all of that. Fair enough.

It's a comment board on the Internet. It happens, deal.

Wut????

Agreed. It was a leading question that, by its very design, invited a stereotypical answer. I guess she could have said "your food and music," but that would have just been trite.

And I was defending her against the wrongheaded nonsense that both of you unfortunately found valuable. I will gladly distance myself from you. Idiot.
