I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell. I didn't know how lucky I was until I moved away from Michigan.

It was nearly thirty years ago, so hard to remember. I don't think hate crime laws were prevalent at the time (or place). I know there was an intent to menace one of the players of the visiting team. Probably enough to have them sit in a cell for at least one night.

Data point - During a high school basketball game I was attending two students showed up in white sheets and hoods. The high school principal immediately removed them from the gym and they spent some time in jail. This was in the rural south of the mid-80s.

So much to look at - the touchdown signal by 27 to his far right, the stoic applause to his immediate right, the space invasion by 32 to his left, the faux formalwear over his shoulder. Yet they all are just a supportive frame for his work of celebratory art.

Strange only 2 stories out of MAGTFTC/MCAGCC. I expected more than 28.

It would be pretty funny if Grantland ended up as just a footnote.

Even after that talk, the Lobbs continued for a while longer, so that a now-subdued Camilla was not seen sitting for the next week.

What I took from the article was that AJ is like the wind. If I had to guess at his motivation for leaving, it might have been something like "This is too familiar. Time for something else." I envy being able to walk away like that.
