Western Australia is (mostly) a desert. Where i live gets kinda cold (its about 55F right now) but because there is so little moisture in the air, it doesn't get snow or even a lot of rain. The lack of moisture is part of the reason the temperature drops so sharply in winter too.

Actually i never considered that they could be basically observing the local savages. The grounders are obviously terrified of them (with good reason) so probably aren't a threat. I was shouted down last time i poo-pooed this and suggested making some sort of solar-roofing tile would be better. Ties right into your house (and the grid) covers probably as much surface (if not more) and is probably a lot easier to maintain without people driving all over it all the time.
