I guess it’s hard for us to really tell on this side of things. The fact is though, at the time it was taken, it was part of Ukraine and they weren’t given the choice democratically. Otherwise we’ve seen more than enough to know that Russia certainly isn’t a “good guy”.

This is the correct response. If people want to memorialize the account in some form, they can take some screenshots or something.  And how do they know that person wanted their feed to live on indefinitely anyway? 

Probably any tweets they shared with their family will be deleted when the account is purged. It’s a curiosity if the “follow” would be retained by account name and suddenly new tweets would arrive to the survivors if the handle is reused. 

They’re dead. They probably won’t mind the account deactivating. Everyone else should probably move on.
