From discussions I’ve had with friends back in T.O. and general vicinity, and from my own feelings as a Leafs die-hard, I think you’re mistaking the relative calm while people wait to see if the changes in the front office bear fruit for apathy. If things are bad and there’s no plan: Leafs fans freak out. When things

Try some Monopoplowa if it’s available where you are. Cheap as can be (~$10-15) and probably the best vodka I’ve had.

As a tall person, I agree with most of your comments: be nice, try to let shorter people behind you see/go in front, etc., and I’d even add that it’s nice to try to line up with other tall people further in front so you don’t form a wall of tall. But I completely disagree about not standing near the front. There’s a

I’m always happy when they start into a cover - always great. And I got to see them do Freebird at Slim’s in SF back in ‘01. They asked the crowd what they wanted to hear, waved off a few requests (e.g., Cowboy Dan - “Just go see Modest Mouse - they tour all the time”), then someone said the magic “Freebird” word and

Good article. What's your sense of the likelihood of free agency being instituted? If it isn't, what would you consider an equitable outcome for both sides at this time?

Agreed. We should all eat more horse. Horse fillet >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> beef fillet.

Two favorites of mine:

Really large ships out on the horizon (OMG BIG BOAT)

This is truly the greatest of things. Well done.

No worries.

Not saying they aren't worn, just that they shouldn't be. But fair enough - to each their own.

Matchday scarves are fine to tack to a wall, but not worn.

This is how The Guardian's feed characterized the Palace crowd just before the comeback started:

I'd argue your timeline - it certainly wasn't that widespread when I went to college in the US in the mid- to late-90s - but I'm sure it's made inroads since then (and maybe I just didn't hear about it because those programs were just getting on their feet). That said, it seems the perception still lags the reality

Lacrosse is very blue collar in my part of Canada so I was always surprised by this vitriol as well. But from what I can tell it's almost exclusively a fancy-pants prep school sport in the eastern US, so I suppose that's where the whole lax bros thing comes from. Too bad too - MLL games are actually pretty fun to

Conventional wisdom is that Canada are the favorites, but I really think it should've been the US. Best in net hands down, and probably the fastest team up front. The game tomorrow should be pretty great - we'll see how this Team Canada can really play hopefully, but the US shouldn't be looked at as underdogs in any

Weird. When I lived over there at least some groups were happy to welcome those born outside of England onto their team.

God's just a GLORY BOY taking all the credit. If you look a bit deeper into the stats I'm sure you'll agree that gritty ol' Institutional Racism really won the day in STL, with help from his old buddy Off-Shored Manufacturing. THAT'S GOOD OLD FASHIONED TEAMWORK.

I completely agree, and agree with your general point. The most unfortunate aspect of all of this to me is that non-scientific issues are driving this discussion:

Double-blind studies are not always an option with human studies due to ethical implications. You can't, for instance, take two similar people and bash the shit out of one of their heads to see what happens just because -> science. Not saying that there isn't some way around the problem in this case, but a lot of
