Strange...It’s not like a Tesla fan to instantly and automatically call BS before even knowing the facts. As far as your edit....If you’ve ever driven a Model S/X refresh, you’d know that those capacitance buttons are never actually visible, need to be enabled every time you want to use them (which causes the car to ac…
Just not very well. Check out the other pictures in this thread of all the times it wants to automatically take you into a wall. From a Model S owner.
They felt like it, too
Disclaimer: I own a Tesla. But I like to think I’m also honest about its issues. As such, I’m often surprised about the people who stand up for such strange designs. Can we play the “Tesla can do no wrong” game so as to make up for all the (most likely earned) Tesla hate on this site?
Tesla-can-do-no-wrongist: “Having…
Almost as lazy as the excuse that voice input is a reasonable substitute. Ask for many of the useful actions, and all you get is “The command is not available yet”. But hey, you can make the car fart, right?
Two horrible options that are both somehow worse than the long-existing standard, yes. Oh noes indeed.
But Tesla could have put the shifting mechanism on the bumper and Tesla fans would have applauded and made excuses for them in fear that somebody might point out their ‘perfect’ car actually has flaws. But…
In case people want to see how it REALLY looks, that panel appears like this the vast majority of the time. IF you want to use it, you need to first activate and make those show up each time, and then you still need to look down and press the flat capacitance area where the ‘button’ lights up. This, as opposed to a shi…
Teslas have gotten worse since that: now you even need to use the touchscreen if you want to shift into reverse. Want to change suspension settings, drive mode, or steering settings? You’re gonna have to dive a few menus down. The HVAC requires you to find/hit little arrows at the bottom of the touchscreen to adjust…
Would pay a LOT to get rid of:
They actually just announced a refresh to the refresh of the second major refresh to the Model S last night. Different rear brakes, “Tesla” instead of a “T” emblem on the rear, a rear bumper with no sonic sensors, and the a steering wheel comes standard instead of the yoke.
BUT....it’s still to a car that still looks…
“Never removing the yoke” is actually something I’m happy that Elon lied about! Surprised Elon and Franz swallowed their pride and let this happen, but I guess Tesla really needs money.
That said, I’d argue that the capacitance turn signal buttons, horn (which Elon also lied about being possible to move to the center…
So much fun it kinda spoils a lot of other cars for me. There are only about 40 in the world, and only 1 running in the States, so they are not very well known (but makes driving it around that much more fun, too).
Really close on both! It’s called a Murtaya. Like the Factory 5 818, it uses the same powertrain as a WRX (or STi, in this case)...but unlike the 818, it’s still front-engined and AWD.
As for the Lotus, I’m told the designer also helped design the S1 Elise, and thus the resemblance in the DNA.
Getting this on the road...after ten years...and she WILL get on the road this year...
...just need to finish the roof, get the AWD working, adjust the cooling, make sure the turbo still works, tune the flat-4, finish the dash design and buttons, add the HVAC, adjust the exhaust, put the doors and windows in, and finish…
I actually have a Plaid, and it’s fast as hell, but also boring as hell...at every speed. Absolutely no engagement, no feedback, and no joy to drive. Then again, I’ve driven fun cars and realize the difference between fast and fun, which people still think are the same (in fact, I’d argue that they’re now inversely…
As Tesla owner, I’m all for Elon focusing on other stuff if it prevents him from dictating horrible interfaces like yoke steering, capacitance turn signal, horn, and windshield wiper ‘buttons’ on said yoke, and throwing other primary controls on the touchscreen. Never had such an anti-driver’s car before.
