@Uncommon_Whore: Ugh... I couldn't find it. It was on Jez a while ago and talked about men's perceptions of prostitutes around the world, and included interviews with guys who said they knew they were sleeping with sex slaves but didn't help them. It made me very sad. I'll keep looking.

@JJtheskripper: Hey! I want to thank you for writing this! I appreciate the perspective and am frankly appalled by some of the responses you are getting. I'm not really sure why anyone feels they deserve an explanation of your motives for having this job, or can possibly think that those types of questions are

It's interesting to me that men resent when they think she isn't enjoying herself. It reminded me of the study that came out a while ago that discussed how men felt cheated when prostitutes did enjoy themselves. Maybe it all goes back to control, and owning your feelings is a no win situation for women in general.

@ida.nuit: This is a website that focuses on women's issues and if treatment of workers in a an industry staffed entirely (or... mostly, anyway) by women isn't relevant here, where is it? Commenters here may not ever come in contact with strippers or strip clubs, but the fact that women are working these jobs and

I really enjoyed Elisabeth's delivery of the lawyer's statement. I hate when I enjoy Elisabeth.

Why don't you guys talk about what you have in common...

I figuratively enjoyed this video.

But did they make it legal for harlots to get married? Shouldn't they be stripping to support their bastards or hiding from polite society at their distant aunt's house?

I am a nanny and have an agent that sends me on interviews when I'm not employed. I recently went to one for a woman who doesn't work, and already has both a full time nanny and maid. She was looking for a second nanny for her 3 kids. She told me I would be the "fun" nanny and she would expect me to entertain them

@NefariousNewt: That better explains it, but I will say that in my marriage, I adore my husband. We have been together 7 years and I still hate sleeping even one night without him. However, there are voids that I have that he will never fill. My friends and my sister do, but there are just places where I fill a

Mr. Frost likes to say, "Dying for someone is easy; living for them is the hard part."

@NefariousNewt: I think this is the author's point; this:

@meg9: Vogue is not (supposed to be) a "White Magazine," it is a magazine "for everybody" that has failed to address significant groups of people. Essence is a magazine that responded to that failure by specifically marketing itself to one of those groups. It's not similar. A black editor at Vogue would be progress

@DepecheNode: Jokes involving rape/homophobia/racism/whatever are funny (to me) when it's clear who is being mocked and it's the right party. Mocking the people who believe rape is no biggie=funny. Mocking rape victims=not funny. And when you can't tell, that's a big problem.

@jessica.ann: Would you like to elaborate on what is monumentally gross about that statement?

Ack! Flashbacks! Why must to subject me to these people when I have moved across the country to get away from them?

@FreudianNipSlip: No, I find this incredibly sexist to men as well. As much as I hate what (Fundamentalist) Christianity teaches women, sometimes the shit they teach men is just as destructive, especially the whole, you can't handle being around women because you are naturally aggressive/sexual/violent.

@LindyLou: When I was deeply entrenched in the far Christian right, "Stumbling block" among guys was usually code for "something that makes me (or makes me want to) masturbate." My church had support groups for high school guys who were "addicted" to masturbating.

I don't really see the point of expecting sports to make money. Yes, male sports bring in more money (which of course has nothing to do with social conditioning) but shouldn't college sports be about way more than money. Shouldn't money just be the perk? Unpopular college sports are how people go to the Olympics,
