Lizzie Skurnick is so very on point it's ridiculous. I have had 3 separate ex's tell me something about me being the "one that got away" which infuriates me to no end. Because it's not true. They didn't love me and I wasn't the "best thing that ever happened" to them; we didn't work out for good reasons. But now…
You're tired of not getting out of the house and babysitters are expensive. I get it. You want to still be an adult and have a drink. I get it. They'll sleep through it! They can color!
@Moses Hightower: She's just the tour guide for that little person! Don't blame her!
That squeaky-toy noise they make when they say oh my god, is the worst thing ever. It actually making me miss the life-support-boredom of the Hilton/Hills accent.
@Marlow: Under the Banner of Heaven is one of my favorites! It's so informative but also SCARY! It gave me nightmares.
@mtfmuffins: In the context of what is expected from a woman in the FLDS community, I actually think having sister wives would have a lot of appeal. Having many children is a huge priority, and you are essentially creating your own village to do that. And when your job is to constantly keep one man (who considers…
@la.donna.pietra: You are correct, but that may have had more to do with the bat-shit crazy doctrines of blood atonement and Natives being fallen Jews than polygamy.
@clevernamehere: A big part of the reason the FLDS are not larger is because the LDS church itself swung in the opposite direction. Polygamy became illegal, but the church also embraced monogamy as the only legitimate relationship, with the punishment of excommunication. So it wasn't just a matter of going against…
@Lemon Merangutan: I completely agree. If the financial burden of supporting their actual family fell on the men/families and not the welfare system it might actually discourage the type of systems that lead to tons of wives, child brides, and lost boys.
Regarding higher rates of murder, rape, and robbery in polygynous cultures, I wonder how much of this is correlation versus causation. Polygynous cultures in North America seem pushed to the edges of society, and are therefore uneducated and unregulated comparatively.
Thanks for the post, I adore her!
@HidingInCanada: I keep trying to read other comments but I can't scroll away.
Yes, men, can you give us your detached and unbiased observations now as to whether or not you are better drivers than women?
Embarrassing fact: Sometimes when I'm stressed out I bury my face in Mr.Frost's armpit and breath deeply. It makes me 74% more calm.
@m.e. stijl: I was totally going to reference that scene. I HATE it. Isn't it so hilarious?! She totally got tricked into sleeping with him! But it's OK, 'cause if you're good enough in bed, women don't mind being raped! LOLZ!
@MissContrarian: Really? You can't see any "context" in the world? Any context like, "I had prejudices, that was wrong, and then I righted them?"
I don't like that people are outright dismissing all instances of deception as not possibly rape. The Massachusetts case is a good example. She consented to have sex with her husband, not his brother. I think this particular case is not a legitimate example and is clearly rooted in racism and sexism, but that…
"And so there I was on a plane to Mexico, with two broken arms, and no idea how I got them or how I got there. And that's when I knew I had to seek help. That's when I knew I was an addict."
This show is really good, you guys. It's really funny and charming but then there are moments when the My So Called Life magic is so clear.
