The thing I’m revealing about myself is that I know the critiques we make are grounded in our relative understanding of the world and our positions in it. Assuming American Gods is a show for men by men, full of “dude violence” and “old dude wisdom” is stupid and prescriptive ... not to mention insulting to the many

Sometimes people say things about other things that reveal far more about themselves than the things they’re talking about.

I think we’re having a little bit of a problem as well because young people are very stupidly thinking that Instagram = art. Yes, amazing art is on Instagram. But this? IS A MEME AT BEST. THAT IS ALL. Thinking something does not make it art unless it is art. What’s the copyright on, the phrase? Can they honestly prove

New Zealand wants programmers, they’re on their immigration fast-track list as of last time I checked a couple months ago.

Jezebel is not its comment section, and you specified “jezebel seems unable to have nuanced convos”. Even if you meant the comment section, one or two or even twenty comments about Milania don’t represent the commenters or readership as a whole.

The thing about craft breweries (and distilleries) has already happened. I work in design, mostly branding and packaging wine, but I have had more than a few experiences seeing people come in and ‘start’ a microbrewery or some such for fun on the side. Or worse, when someone’s trophy spouse needs a project.

Question about MR: I recently had a few MRIs done (spinal disc damage) and I am also trying to get pregnant. I asked if I was ok reproductive-wise—I’m not pregnant yet—and was told it’s fine. Is it fine?

I think you could do it with sunscreen...similar to glitter, it will kind of stick to everything. It might wipe off on stuff though: clothes, hair, walls, pets...

You can wear them alone. They’re really just shimmery liquid — luminizer is glitter for grown-ups! :)

You are being kind of awful here for basically no reason whatsoever, which surprises me because I always enjoyed (or at least was informed by) your posts on The Salad Bowl and elsewhere.

You still completely missed the fact that I wasn’t discussing the “liability question,” as you put it, at any point in this thread besides ending my last comment to you with ‘It is not a statement of innocence or guilt on the Gaines’ part’. I don’t know how I could possibly have been clearer. I was referring to the

You must have missed some element of the thread you’re commenting on. I wrote that comment in direct response to these two comments:

This is literally what I just said above:

I don’t think I missed the point. My point was, the Gaines’ could have used any brand name to do all that licensing that makes them money. They weren’t actually tied to Magnolia because TLC didn’t care when it made a deal with them, it only cared about them. They could have made a new, independent brand called

I just used it as an example of the fact that I don’t think this qualifies as fraud, based on what I know, because I don’t see how there’s a practical way that Chip Gaines could have acted on/withheld insider information.

Good point.

I think Prufrock is right. Reality television doesn’t care about home brands unless they’re huge — they’re looking for characters that will work for their viewers (and conflict, a lot of the time).

The “full story”.... What full story could there possibly be? That the officers were being fired upon by someone, and this young man was killed in ‘friendly fire’? That these kids who were by the police department’s own admission unarmed and sober, somehow deserved this because an officer might have been in danger?

Plus, as other commenters have pointed out, two days prior to the show airing is not a time when people wouldn’t have been very aware TLC was filming. Filming is not the fast, or quiet, or sneaky. So these business partners were either totally divorced from the business already or just didn’t believe in it at all.

With your example of a 1930's-era portrait studio, you actually would not necessarily need to get the studio’s permission in a few more years (which is good since it no longer exists!). Copyright law does account for time. Since the primary intention of the law is to protect creators and allow them to profit from
