I love Stranger Things, and...

I just mainlined the whole series. LOVED it. I wish it had a more inclusive cast, but I’m hopeful for future seasons. The direction and cinematography were nostalgic and awesome in equal parts.

I just don’t agree (except maybe on fascism-y, but that’s so obviously a joke it’s kind of irrelevant), and I don’t know Harold.

You realize that—assuming you’re arguing on behalf of Tay Tay in this particular case—what you’re actually arguing on behalf of is lying. You are stating that someone has the right to lie in private and not get caught. That’s much more morally bereft than sharing a “semi-private” recording.

Eh, I’m a lady horrified by this abuse and I think your suggestion here A) won’t work and B) is kind of techno fascism-y (as much as such a thing even exists, since it’s obviously ridiculous hyperbole).

No, the kids are legally innocent. He’s allowed to protect himself and his property, but he shot off his property—the teenagers weren’t trespassing and did not threaten him until after he brandished a gun at them. At that point, they (may have) aimed their vehicle at him in self defense.

Yeah, there are a bunch of areas that are much more family friendly in terms of the barriers (like, higher up and steeper drops, but fenced). THe park allows you to get close to the edge all over the place though, so self-policing (and watching children carefully) is key.*

I get the impression she tripped on her own, but by God, there should be signs saying NO PASSING. I don’t know why anyone would do something like that on a narrow trail, but people do.

I mean, it’s very beautiful and there’s lots to look at/experience even if you don’t go out on the hiking trails! I actually strongly recommend it, but you will see people being idiots near the edges and they really, really should not be.

The main lookout points of the Grand Canyon get so impacted with crowds and the trails get so narrow in spots ... We were there a few years ago and my husband about had a coronary just watching me walk around (he’s a little nervous about heights).

There’s a specific reason so many of them are young. The combination of A) passionate emotion/hormones with nowhere to go, with B) the essential black and white thinking that is classic in young adults because their brains aren’t 100% baked yet, with a dash of C) low levels of life experience from not being exposed to

Because it might not technically be an ad. It could be a “gift” from AirBNB, with no required post (but of course the understanding that if she doesn’t post, it probably won’t happen again, and ... she should post).

Because AirBNB gave her a free stay in exchange for an Instagram shout-out (if they didn’t pay her on top of a free stay).

Yeah, I felt a savior complex there. That big list wasn’t meant to describe the employee, it was written to highlight the “understanding and kindness” of the manager.

It depends on a person’s level of empathy though... when I read that letter, it sounds to me like those dickensian qualities are being used by the original writer as negatives, not positives. If seen in that light (which, ugh) it all becomes more believable. Consider that the manager in question may have kept this

I’m reading “seniority” in this case as “job title.” It’s totally possible for a small team to only have one person in a few roles (that can still cover for each other with limited but ok for short periods of time capability). If that’s the case, this becomes more believable. I’m thinking in particular of a few

Looks like a towel to me! The US definition of our flag is a little weird. If you let a real flag (real = polyester?) touch the ground you’re an anti-patriot-heathen, but if you use a fake flag (fake = fleece?) as a throw on your couch everything’s cool.

Alternatively, they may well have told her to do just this... or at least, might have said: “please post this many photos per day and note that cute kids get a lot of RTs.”

How predictable.

you got an out loud laugh!
