The goal of the ban was to reduce the use of and litter of single-use plastic bags. It was wildly successful at doing that. It wasnt successful at achieving your straw-man goals. Shocking!

No one is mandating that so why are you so worried about it? The California policy has been wildly effective and no one was forced to buy anything in particular, you were just no longer given the option of a free, single-use bag. 

The cotton bag thing is a straw-man argument:

All those studies conveniently dont account for any CO2 or general pollution incurred collecting and disposing of all those plastic bags in landfills and certainly dont account for the damage to the environment they cause when a large percentage of them wind up as litter.

It also should be compared to real world gas vehicle emissions testing. I am sure there is some variance there as well. A horrible misunderstanding of statistics (in good or bad faith) will be the death of this planet.  

You want to cite those battery fab CO2 costs? Everything thing I have seen about them has all the scrupulousness of the old Hummer vs. Prius bullshit. 

I remember seeing his campaign signs everywhere back then and as a 6-7 year old thought it was probably the funniest thing in the whole universe.

I could be way off base but I feel like the distinction is that stuff should be used as a way to make connections. The car for him is a way for him to connect with himself. His opinion is that cars are just cars (like couches are just couches) so he should get the one that gives him a connection to himself or others.…
