You said it better than I could’ve. I think dumb story ideas were making their way into this franchise since Aliens, and I thought Resurrection was a fun ride with lots of unexpected turns.

My idealized Alien includes the scrapped ending that would’ve shown the xenomorph’s original lifecycle and what ultimately happens…

And I’m not sure he really appreciates the scaling attack speed modifier for cats once they get aggro. If I pet my cat when he’s mildly annoyed with me, he’ll swipe at my hands when I touch him, but if he’s pissed he uses preemptive strike and my hand takes damage before I even think about petting him again.

The plotting itself in Act 2 was pointless. What Rian Johnson was trying to do (I’m not sure I totally agree with his decisions) was take the usual harebrained Star Wars convoluted Hail Mary hero plan and make it fail. And fail spectacularly.
