For sure.  Specialty welders and/or those willing to travel to where the jobs are hot (say, boom times in the oil patch—just be ready to jump off that hoss if you have to when things go sour, as they do from time to time) can make even more than the pretty decent average.

Welders can make a ton of money; some of the welders in my area charge up to $200 / hour...learn how to do it in high school, get certified when you turn 18, and you’d be rolling in money by your mid-20's.

I hope every person here who writes “But bicyclists break traffic laws!” has never driven one mile an hour over the speed limit because surely you wouldn’t have a double standard. 

So, first thing, stop signs are fucking stupid. America is littered with them and has far more road accidents and deaths than Western Europe, which has hardly any, and has a priority system designed to focus your attention on the actual hazard of oncoming traffic, rather than the act of stopping itself.
