Here’s the video, which is just brilliant. I’m not a fan of speaking in music videos, but this is one case where I make an exception. Even without the video—the song is literally about an abusive relationship.

Stassa - this was a brilliant piece. Thank you.
I was harassed at a work Christmas party by the on-air talent. Blatantly, brazenly and shockingly. It was only half an hour in. One minute a group of us were discussing politics and then out of the blue he stated that I had magnificent breasts and he wanted to suckle on my nipples. After a moment of shocked silence I…
Bobby, I care more than enough for the both of us about Zachary Quinto and his boyfriend’s possible engagement. They are gorgeous individually and together, and they love their dogs. Let me have this, OK?
A busy new semester for Teaching Assistants. After one of our day-long orientation meetings MANY of us retreated to our favorite pub to get our party on, re-acquaint with old buds and get to know new ones. It was always a busy, crazy, wonderful week. Near the end and we are all getting chummier, the crowd at the pub…
Mansplaining and being condescending are not the same thing. Mansplaining is a gendered behavior where the man assumes to know (more) about a subject by virtue of his gender and assumes that a woman needs it explained to her because of her gender. If it’s not a gendered situation, it’s not mansplaining.
And Hollywood is the very worst. Look at who she was talking to- Letterman had multiple affairs with workers where he had all the power. I’m not saying they were coerced, but he abused his position too.
Or, you know.
Oh man, I definitely thought that, as I was mansplaining to you why it was OK that I comment here. And now it’s cross posted to Deadspin, lol.
I think we’re welcome, as long as we don’t dominate the comment sections. I just realized right after my first post that we’re dominating the comments, on at article poking fun at guys dominating the conversation. I just thought “Shit, we’re proving their point”.
and let’s get that out of the gray!
The fact that the top thread on this article is all dudes is kinda ironic.
Actually, let me explain this without reading the article.
Moved up one for weed consumption, moved down two for conspicuous mention of a relationship with a black person in an attempt to increase your score.
Nope, Rothschilds.
Because gender is a key part of it. It’s not just men being jerks while explaining. It’s men being jerks while explaining because they are unable to acknowledge women as experienced or knowledgeable. Most of what is mentioned in this article is jerk behavior.
It’s a problem that often breaks down by gender, though. Just for fun, try watching for it in yourself or others- it’s not uncommon, and a lot of us dudes are guilty of it (at least occasionally) without really realizing it.
Talking about sexism is not attacking a gender, just as talking about racism isn’t attacking white people.
The most important words in your post: “I don’t see.” What is this disease some people have where they ramble on about something as if they have a legit opinion, when the basis of that position is ignorance? You can’t disavow any knowledge of something and then expect us to care what you have to say about that thing.…
It always has been. Men condescend disproportionately to women. Now that young women are, on average, more educated than men, and men are still explaining stuff we already know to us on a regular basis, this is getting named and called out.
