Like the article pointed out, I think marketing strategy is a simple reason. It might not always (Or even ever) make complete sense, but I assume different regional reps have a bit of creative freedom to change titles just enough to market better to their culture.

Cloud wasn’t on a Nintendo console though. Thinking of the NES/SNES Final Fantasy’s I think a Black Mage would be the most versatile character. Various types of magic such as Thunder, Blizzard, Fire, Quake, etc. Final Smash can be Meteor or Flare. Would be a very awesome character I think (and the one I voted for
