Actually, I've been one for about 12 years.

Elaborate?

...this is the single most contrived comparison of games to ANYTHING that I've ever read.

Hmmm...an interesting new spin on the art design. Dimmer without getting greybrown. I likey.

Or, you know, these firms that so depend on IP could change their approach to cater to consumer tastes that have clearly changed with the introduction of the internet.

Those bastards pulled a fast one...you're going to start IMPRISONING people over pirated media now? What's next, will you foreclose on their homes? Ruin their lives? You can only scare them so much, but you can't stop the new wave of instant, cheap media that people around the world are clearly demanding...all you're

The problem with games like Vanquish and Binary Domain (I've played both) is that they're just "okay", not great. Why? They play fine. They have decent features.

Exactly, and I don't know how we can get the message across to Japanese developers because of how closed their development culture is.

Did you watch E3 and see all the QTEs in the various Western games? The stereotype of "long Japanese cutscenes" is certainly a thing of the past - I'd say it's even more prevalent to have "PRESS X TO DO EVERYTHING" cutscenes in Western games.

There aren't many, but a good example was Septerra Core for the PC.

Wise words, Hayashi! I couldn't have said it better myself. Every single Japanese developer who is stuck making games catering to the west, and having their sales fall because of it, HAS to read this. It's time for Japan to get its originality back, and start offering a product that competes with western games by

A sixfold power increase, eh? Sounds like a true generational leap.

It's REALLY cool to see a Dragon's Lair-style FMV game in this day and age. Honestly, with storage space becoming really cheap, I think FMV has a lot of untapped potential that we haven't utilized in modern gaming yet.

Indeed, sir. Out of all the arcade-style racers I've played, I've never encountered one with more fine tuning, more technical dazzle, and more polished production values than F-Zero GX. One of the few games I've ever played that I'd give a perfect 10 (I can count them on one hand).

Again with the "vocal minority" excuse. I see it all the time, and it's honestly lying to yourself.

An interesting ruling, to be sure, and one that could POTENTIALLY foster innovation...but one that we also must beware of, and one that I think the gaming community has to be an active part of. Perhaps a committee made up of people in the gaming industry who can be the judge for themselves on whether or not a game

While I can't agree with where the guy is coming from, he isn't stupid, and he raises some decent points. I just choose to disagree with his philosophy.

Impressive! Another example of how to do digital media right. A shame that this is mostly done on an amateur level, and no big ad firms have really gotten the message.

And THAT'S why we import, ladies and gentlemen.

Man, there are so many cool arcade cabs that either never saw the light of day or were released in limited quantities. My favorite is probably Attack of the Zolgear for the Namco Theater 24. A 24-player arcade game.
