The old XBO would not have had that problem. Microsoft would know what games you own, and would be able to restore all of those games to any future consoles you buy. And since the XBO is x86-based, it might even be possible for MS to release emulators in the future, and let you play your library on your PC, without

I don't really get your reply to ualdayan. How would it have been negative to give users a choice (treating discs one way and digital another)? Let consumers decide what they want and what is truly better. Even if consumers choose the option that you think is worse (I disagree with you), how would that negatively

Unfortunately gadget geeks are entirely too self absorbed to consider how the 24 hour checks would effect a large number of consumers. I can say, from experience, that while military members may only accompany 1% of the country, almost 100% of them own consoles.

I've been repeating this all over, but if you think this was caving to whiners rather than pre-orders, I think you're kidding yourself.

The ironic part is, Gadget people are/should be more inclined to fight over hardware because gadgets are different yet similar, whilst gamers should be happy about anything gaming related. Seeing as all they should give a fuck about is games. Instead we get the "PS4 VS Xbox One herp derp" arguments.

Shut your fucking mouth you retard. There is ZERO innovation in draconian DRM policies.

Only a real sucker would pay for "innovation" with their consumer rights.

You know what you can do right now? Buy a digital game and download it immediately. Microsoft has already promised that *all* games will be available on Xbox Live day one, so why would you even bother driving/walking/biking/jogging to GameStop?

Agreed and well said!

Agreed.

B-b-but something something PC games. Ri-r-right? Never mind that steam has a slew of competition from amazon, GoG, Greenman, etc.

Thank you, Jason. This is a great response.

Right on, Jason. Leave gaming coverage to the gaming site.

God Jason spot on bro spot on

Kyle, you're arguing that people should have taken a stick with no promise of a carrot in the future. Did Microsoft ever say anything about making games cheaper as a result of these policies? Anywhere? There is no reason for anyone to have just accepted this DRM in exchange for the hope that maaaaaaaybe Microsoft will

By "long term consequences" I mean a decade down the line when the servers get shut down...they claim there's some kind of safeguard in place to make sure an entire generation's worth of games don't become coasters but I want to hear specifics because this is a damn important issue.

You dont get it, do you? The PS4 will have NO MORE restrictions than PS3/360 games have now. Publishers can restrict multiplayer, but they cant tie their game to your account, forcing a friend, or a used game buyer to "unlock" the game on their account like the Xbone. Besides that, the biggest offender of those online

The PS4 has the same policy as the PS3. It is up to the publisher. People seem to not realize the PS3 and 360 had that same policy. Xbox One is the only one to change that.

My fanboy sense is tingling!
