Whale boomed in the 60's in Japan. Whale was eaten prior to WWII, but not very often and more for industrial reasons (oil etc).
Other odd fact: The Japanese didn't really have whale as part of their diet until post WWII, when we told them to eat it (as it was plentiful) because of food shortages etc. Turns out it's delicious and added it cultural cuisine.

True. Though I think it fell slightly out of favor after 9/11. Though when I think about X-Files falling out of favor and shows like 24 coming to prominence... yeah, that sucks.

The show was all about not trusting the government, and after 9/11 people wanted to find trust in the government so shows like the X-Files and Lone Gunman were less in favor... I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with the writing starting to lack quality by that point.
