I’ve been trying to stay away from numbers, but all the same -

Well, I’ve mentioned elsewhere, just today, that regardless of my position, as written, the President is not elected by direct democracy. Apparently there was quite a bit of discussion about that in writing the Constitution. Basically the EC is the mechanism by which the States elect the president.

Right - and states decide how their Electors are selected and operate.

Well, I’ve been called out about the first, but all the same it’s worth pointing out that 1824, 1876, and 2000 were contested elections.

My uniform don’t seem to fit. I’m much too alive in it :)

I was thinking about this last night. I don’t disagree, but:

I want to say thanks for posting the video. It was informative.

Well, maybe a world where a populist dictator wins by promising puppies and kittens?

Yeah, but that’s part of what undermines state sovereignty. It basically consigns those states to relying on their legislative representation, if presidential candidates know that they can focus on the larger population states. I don’t know how the Electoral numbers line up but I’m guessing it is weighted to give

Well, like I said in at the start, I don’t know that I have strong arguments against dropping the EC. I’m just not sure I’ve heard strong arguments in favor of it.

I am generally against abolishing the Electoral College, but I don’t know that I have strong arguments for that position. the best I could do would be to repost pieces from WaPo and others, which basically say:

The French copy no one, and no one copies the French.

But. . .parachute pants.

I watched LWT and guess what? “Alvin” said two decades not “nearly three.”

I would def agree about the start and end points for “the 90s”. The 80s were so awesome, they took a while to peter out :)

Yeah. She’s my age. That’s one reason “nearly three decades” stuck in my craw :)

I have alerted my Tulsa cap peeps (my younger two brothers . . . us older two have moved away).

I can’t wait to watch this tonight (I watch most HBO a day late at best). That said:

His name is James T. Kirk.

I was 7 when this movie came and and ALL OVER IT.
