Why do chips have to keep getting smaller? I mean, yeah, consumer demand and the rise of portable electronics and whatnot, but really, why can't they just make chips larger? Wouldn't that help heating issues, if the transistors were further apart?

I also thought it was important for reflecting heat on various parts of the earth that receive less sunlight during various parts of the year... Although maybe I just wanted to jump on this bandwagon, too.

It's probably a hardware thing, with some software mixed in.
