I love how anything the left does nowadays is dismissed by centrists as right-wing tactics, while their entire attitude of dismissal, revulsion towards the ‘extreme left’ and co-option of right-wing tactics to vilify people like AOC is fair game and somehow immune to criticism. 

OTOH: Diane is a grown ass woman and an extremely long-serving Senator. If anybody should know how to choose her words, it should be her. Why are we holding kids to a higher standard?

She’s saying that to a 16-year old. Who will be voting in the next election. And not, I would guess, for Feinstein.

I remember the US pretty well before 9/11, when the Democratic Party made a conscious decision to chase after/undercut the right and passed or collaborated with them on cruel, punitive legislation like welfare “reform,” the crime bill, deregulation of the financial sector, DOMA, tax cuts for the wealthy, etc.

Husband works for human resources in a major city and when I read him this he nodded so hard his head almost came off.

Which is it? Are they innocents being manipulated or are they mature people who need to wake up to reality?

I do mind it. Even if the kids were being used (I cared about stuff when I was like 12 and up), they didn’t know that, and this was their first encounter with a real live Representative Of The People. And she was shitty to them. She’s been in Congress for like 800 years ... she should be able to be more diplomatic…

That’s how they dismiss these kids, as though they are just pawns with no agency, just like the right did to the Parkland kids. Just like some are trying to do to the European kids. Kids raised to be concerned are acting now, and they should. I’m glad they got an adult to drive them and help them. 

Seriously. I joined my school’s ecology club when I was 14. Our advisor was one of the Earth Science teachers. He showed us realistic videos, many of which PREDICTED what we’re seeing now. He took us to the local landfill, which is huge, and we took the tour. And we did little projects that probably don’t mean much in…

While I respect Feinstein’s integrity in not just telling the kids what they wanted to hear, I don’t think she really distinguished herself from her Republican colleagues. Was her point was “fuck you young wippersnapper idealistic lefties with your clueless ultimatum” she made that point loud and clear. If her point…

She sounds just like the Boomers at my government agency who have been there since the 1970s.

The full video isn’t more flattering. Have you watched it? She said what she said how she said it. I’m not mad about it, because it illustrates the cronyism that dictates law in this country and positions it sharply against the new class of legislators trying to get shit done.
