Actually, it’s kind of the exact opposite--this shows how very difficult it is to convincingly fake an attack, and how easily the stories of people lying about being assaulted crumble under investigation. Nobody is sincerely equating “believe victims” with “don’t investigate crimes”; that’s a straw man used by rape

“Believing the victim” means exactly what you just said: a crime has been reported, we will investigate it fully because we believe a crime has been committed, and we need to get to the bottom of it.” As facts emerge, sometimes, so does skepticism, but if you first reaction is to say, “well, he might have been making

On the other hand, if you post a sign that says “back in 30” and a manager happens to stop by, they don’t know if you’ve been away for 2 minutes or 2 hours...

I can't believe I had to scroll all the way to the bottom until I found a comment about maternity leave. It's just surreal to me, a non-american, that people go back to work so soon after having a baby. But americans are so used to it, it doesn't even enter the conversation. Instead everyone is upset she  couldn't

The worst part of this story is the horrible lack of maternity leave in a supposedly First-World country.

What if Federal law dictates that they can't do that? Mind blown, right??

Interviewing John Lasseter was my very first assignment as a journalist, and he was an absolute asshole to me. He’s very talented, and very nasty.

Dear sweet Mama Karma, I call on thee to help this clerk.

Yeah, I highly doubt the person u responded to would risk their livelyhood to do the right thing. I thinks is ridiculous to ask people without power to risk their career to take a stand. Plus if they did take a stand they would be replaced and the show would go on.

Bullshit. It is great that Emma Thompson is doing this. I think she and the other 40 superstar actors who can do this SHOULD do so. To imply that all actors should follow suit is idiotic. This has, quite literally, nothing to do with the patriarchy - damn that’s so stupid.

I’m not comfortable asking other people to sacrifice their dreams and careers, given I’m not offering that (luckily being in an industry that I don’t have to)

I’d like every single A-Lister who can do this, to do this. Change will come, but I’m not going to judge those who aren’t for taking the job they’ve waited 5

Good for her! Also can we talk about how fantastic she looks with that silvery white hair? She seems to get more gorgeous every year.

Family Dollar, Dollar General, et al are fucking cancers on small towns across the country. I’m not the tiniest bit surprised that they suck to work for.

What if, as you were sitting there musing about how she should just be happy to have a job, a toilet fell from the ceiling and landed directly on your head?

Completely unrelated to the details of this story, but it’s really a pet peeve of mine.

Bravo Emma!  Good for you!

Your last line is the most important here. Emma Thompson has considerably more clout than almost every other actor and actress out there. Walking away from a piece is not going to harm her future in the business - and she even if it did, she is a multi millionaire many times over, so she can retire with no worries.

Maybe if Jezebel didnt post 5 things about KK for every 1 for ET.....?

Emma Thompson is smart, educated, funny and has integrity. More young girls should aspire to be her instead of a damn Kardashian.
