It used to be wiped after the group stage, but after some high-profile players missed finals due to a 2nd yellow in a semi they moved the wipe to after the quarters. This has the unfortunate side-effect of making it a longer 4-game initial period (group stage through round of 16) in which a player could earn 2 yellows…

The stats are striking. Even if it’s not a true causal relationship (I definitely think it is), the stats at the very least show a very strong correlation between Firmino playing and Brazil scoring, which in this era of stats-heavy analysis is a real eye-opener.

Brazil lost because they did not start Firmino again, period.  Every time he’s come on in every game he’s either scored or created goals for others.  Tite stuck with Gabriel Jesus to the detriment of the team.
