My experiences with racism are not only in the realm of hurt feelings. And I’m not saying that things are harder for me. I’m saying that it’s not easier. I will absolutely push back on the idea that “Meaning black with other attributes that can often soften (but not erase) the blow of blackness inspired racism.”
First off, I’m black. So if there’s racism in the room against black people then I’m a target. Second, perhaps I wrote my statement inelegantly. I was responding to the assertion that being biracial or lighter skinned makes things easier. I don’t think it does. I think that to racists, we’re all targets.

Why bother claiming that you weren’t trying to somehow diss her by changing her name? We all know that’s what you were doing. Again, adding punctuation and capitalization shows that it was deliberate. Somehow your deliberate attempt to offend the writer was a point about people taking offense at innocent things (which…
You added extra punctuation and capitalization. That was clearly intentional, so how can you claim that you meant no offense?
No, it’s not appropriation. However, it was also not wise.
Lindsay “The black guy was driving” Lohan can disappear in obscurity for all I care. I will never root for a woman who tried to frame a black man for her criminal activity. She’s not even a major talent - I don’t know why anyone wrings their hands over her. Let he disappear. She doesn’t deserve fame.

That is an awful photo.
Yeah, I totally thought that “he’s just not that into you” was the whole subtext of that letter. It’s great that he helped her get her groove back, but he’s not interested.
My grandmother always said to never give a man any money. I live by that rule. Why, ladies?
I agree with you, Sean Brody.
Did he “teach himself the trades” and get into a union that restricts minority membership? Is he presumed to be more innocent, capable, smarter, more qualified than a minority person because of his race? Those are benefits. Your dad may have had a hard life, but none of those things are because he is white.

Your parents didn’t prepare you correctly, then. The things that all of your many many white friends at work can get away with are not things that you could get away with. There is a problem with the police and minorities - disparate treatment and a tendency to view minorities as inherently dangerous. There is a…
