What are you talking about? Unless she was raped by a guy that she thought was Conor Oberst, she deliberately went all over the place and wrote defamatory lies about how he assaulted her. Deliberately. Her cat didn't walk over the keyboard and it didn't randomly spell out an account of rape - she deliberately wrote

His life wasn't ruined by being cast as a rapist of a minor, especially when people always believe accusers??? Why are you minimizing what was done to him? It's no biggie to be publically viewed as a rapist? There is no excuse for it. It wasn't a mistake - it was a deliberate, malicious act if she lied.

My point is that a pregnant woman is already at risk, regardless of whether she goes on Craigslist or not.

But sex with a stranger, on Craigslist, for cash is probably the riskiest thing you could do while pregnant.

This is tragic - moreso because the date seemed so promising at the beginning. That this attractive, seemingly nice and well-adjusted guy could make such an alarming misstep — it would be really disheartening. It would be better if he were a cretin from the beginning; at least it wouldn't be such a jolt.

She wasn't using poor grammar in speaking to him, though. That was another one of his racist insults, along with "hooker," "ketchup sandwiches," and "ghetto."

This is from Survivor: Samoa. Basically, a black female contestant confronts a white male about aggressively tackling her during a competition. He responds with denials and racist insults (but not racist, in his mind), calling her "ghetto," criticizing her grammar, making comments about "ketchup sandwiches," etc.

I have my mother's surname, but I wasn't born with it. She has been married 5 times, and subsequently, all my siblings are half-siblings (to me and to each other). For simplicity's sake, we have her surname. Plus, her surname is awesome. :)

YOU are the one with the theory that the readers were identifying excessively with Katniss, and therefore any sister-figure would automatically have to be white as well (which does not naturally follow for a sister-figure). Also, black readers do not view both Katniss and Prim as black because the readers are black.

You didn't address what I wrote - namely, that it is not true that every reader imagines the characters to be the same race as they. Black readers don't tend to imagine Katniss or Harry Potter as black.

The majority of the issue stemmed from white people who imagined Rue was white because they applied their own familial view to the situation.

To be fair the problem more likely stems from the context of Rue rather than failing to follow the description. The reader is meant to identify with Katniss and sort of 'become' her while reading. Katniss sees Rue as her sister, Prim and so we are meant to see Rue/Prim as OUR sister.

Isn't she embarrassed to be the face of mediocrity?

The Courthouse Elopement sounds great! Cupcakes!

Look, I agree with you that leaving your kid in a hot car is unsafe. I am adding to that statement with the assertion that leaving your small child alone in public at all is unsafe.

I'm sure that more kids are hurt by strangers, or by accidents that they cause themselves while being unsupervised - than they do by climate related-things like being left in the car. It's not a good idea to leave a small child alone in public at all, in my opinion.

A five year-old is utterly helpless and has poor judgement. She could be taken by a stranger, she could wander off — anything could happen.

But what about a five-year-old waiting just outside a supermarket?

I hadn't heard anything about the sexual assault. ???

I don't believe that beauty bloggers can't be criticized at all. But the jealous complaints I see about them being "greedy" because they receive endorsement deals or are sent product to review, or criticisms that they're too fat (or totally vain and fake because they used to be fat and decided to lose weight or they
