I suspect this annual subscription fee is just a way of testing the waters to see how receptive people are. If the majority go for the subscription instead of the one-time charge then that may lead the way to how things will go in the future for other features.

The fact that rebates and most discounts etc only apply to the EB models backs up what you’re saying. If they REALLY wanted to I’m sure they could’ve made an ecoboost 5.0 that had similar mpg to the 3.5 or even just a more fuel efficient 5.0 with cylinder deactivation etc.
