What are you talking about? Cars and trucks have been designed for decades so that the engine and transmission move downwards/away from the passenger compartment in a crash. The mass of the engine and transmission actually also helps to absorb some of the crash energy.

Engines/transmissions have been designed to drop down and under vehicles for decades to the point where its not a feature spoken about but rather an expected standard safety device. Most castings are made with specific failure points for this reason. Breaking these mounts further energy dissipation.
