There was an article in Fast Company a few months ago, saying that that’s already happening in the Silicon Valley area, because people have figured out you can carve up Google’s self driving cars with impunity.

Jalopnik writers and most of the commentariat imagines that 1) “the law” is some sort procedure manual for driving, which it certainly isn’t, and 2) that it is a cohesive, thought-out system when it’s mostly a collection of ad-hoc political reactions to interest groups and public pressure.

NODES 12-18, ACTIVATE ENCIRCLE MODE, ENGAGE SIDE IMPACT PANELS. ACTIVATE INTERNAL ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM PACIFICATION MODE. HUMAN DRIVER 1298-A4 PLEASE STAND BY FOR POLICE DRONE. KEEP HANDS VISIBLE.

Deploy chaff, LIDAR ERROR, train mode off :)

In the case of highway ramp speeds and some speed limits in general around here, it’s like the speeds are set for fully loaded 18 wheelers driving in bad weather.

Agreed. A four-way yield intersection can be just as safe (and far more efficient) than a four-way stop intersection.

“They creep out from stop signs after coming to a complete stop and mostly obey the letter of the law — unlike humans.”

ENGAGE ANTI ENTITLEMENTBOI TRAIN MODE. DISTANCE BETWEEN NODES REDUCED TO 6 INCHES.

Another issue. In a merge a-holes will just keep cutting off self-driving cars because they won’t be programmed to block, but to avoid. So the lane will essentially stop as the autonomous vehicle remains motionless and is cut off repeatedly by the never-ending stream of me-first entitlementbois.

God knows this thing can’t lose any value and he can sell it for what he bought it for.

“THIS is a Ford Econoline. But it’s not like any other....!” I’m watching his Volvo XC90 video right this second.

It’s $2500. Why are you day-dreaming? Buy the thing and write articles about it, if it’s truly that interesting.

Not only but Tesla is deploying its global charging network at a very rapid pace, seeing them as a company that only builds fast EV’s with fancy doors is extremely shortsighted. Their car business is the least important part.

Be more like Tesla, car companies! Whatever that is supposed to mean.

I dunno Bill, some people buy the cars because they like to drive them. Some buy them to show off, some buy them for other reasons. I don’t really see the purpose of judging owners of a specific car as to whether or not they are “real drivers.”

Honestly I’m okay with it. Hubris gets us a moon base just as easily as scientific exploration does. Whatever we need to do to get one, let’s do it.

Alanis, don’t take it personally. We all say things we don’t mean when we’re waiting in a service department for hours on end. Their frustration will inevitably lessen once they trade it in for something else.

Does there ever need to be a reason to do something other than it would be cool? Hell, that’s pretty much the whole reason we had our Space Race pissing match with the Soviets anyway.

Could even say you’re data is on the dark side of the moon.

What would be cool is to put a pc/server on the moon with a webcam on it. Just so you can say that the data you are getting is coming from the moon.
