I think the last woman he dated has been writing letters to the advice column of The Guardian.

Well, not at first, no. But wait till she discovers who you are in chapter threeeeeeeeee.

Well trolled. I lol'd. And sort of polled:

Nice helmet.

For a time, NASA was developing a controlled-descent rig for the Gemini capsules; it was a system of inflatable struts supporting a triangular airfoil/parachute and deployable control surfaces that would allow the pilot to steer the craft as it descended. I've seen one video of it in action that looked not unlike the

Well, if the excellent book ever leaves you no longer in need of a livable wage, or you find yourself thinking, "squalor sounds pretty good," please consider teaching at the middle- and high-school level. The kids could use more good ones.

Such was my fear. So go many thoughtful teachers, and who can blame them for finding employment that encourages and rewards their thinking.

Please keep teaching forever. I know it can be miserable and thankless, but please know that there are parents who cherish thoughtful teachers, wish there were more of them, and are trying to find better ways to recognize, reward, and compensate the ones who deserve it.

You're making me want to go back to school. I always had to read science fiction on the side. I'm old enough to have been in school at a time when there wasn't mainstream embrace of it like there seems to be now. Would you mind sharing which SF works you've used in your teaching?

I'm not sure who is defending his statements as reasoned discourse. If you got the impression that I was doing so, I didn't express myself well. His statements are ridiculous and deserving of mockery. Institutional opposition often validates fringe elements like this guy. I think derision is ultimately more effective.

I actually think it is the responsibility of other individuals, ideally en masse, to counter hateful speech, rather than leave it to institutions.

That's beautiful. The solution to hateful free speech is and should always be more speech.
