That this thing had marginally better performance stats than its competitors while otherwise being forgettable crap is just a brilliant little microcosm of everything that was wrong with Cadillac during this period.

I the irony of this whole piece is that the Northstar V8 was framed as some kind of cool thing to be appreciated for when in reality, its the reason why most of these were off the road in 10 years or less.
I couldn’t agree more. I think the new models still look pretty cool, but the shock value just hasn’t been there as it was with the Veyron. It just feels like the numbers don’t matter any more.
Agreed, and I think it’s because the Veyron was a Piech-era engineering marvel that went above and beyond to hit benchmarks that really didn’t matter but were cool anyways (see also: VW XL-1). All the Bugattis since then have just been iterations on the same formula, but not anything actually new. Now there are…
Maybe it’s my age, maybe it’s the price of the cars, but Bugatti has really done nothing for me emotionally since maybe the first Veyron. I’d say their design language is too strong, since I would’ve thought the car in the last photo was just a Veyron with better headlights. I will be taking my millions of dollars…
I forgot this car existed in the amount of time it took me to scroll to the comments. It was the least memorable product from Cadillac’s least memorable design period.
They insisted on the Northstar engine when the tried and true LT was just sitting there. The Blazer and Saablazer got one, they should have dropped in in the Caddy as well.
I don’t think I EVER saw one, like if you were buying a Cadillac SUV it was Escalade of get the fuck out.
This is why new car comparisons/car of the year doesn’t mean jack shit. Motortrend gave 1st place to this steaming pile of shit.
That puts you ahead of actual SRX owners, who are still trying to forget they existed. These were repair nightmares.
I totally forgot these existed. I haven’t seen one in a long time.
100K on the clock? Which goes first, the Vanos or the valve seals? Not to mention the 13 year old plastic cooling system with its weird routing.
This car is likely mechanically totaled out the gate.
ND
ND. This is $5k, and then expect to lose another $15k in repairs the first year. And it will have stuff break that no one, not even Der Meistermechanik can fix.
Doesn’t look like it. ND any day I wouldn’t let my worst enemy buy an early N63 car no matter how good the service history.
Oh heavens no. Just one look at those dated graphics on the rear-seat screens reminds me of all the outdated tech and pricy repairs this thing will certainly need down the road. Big modified barges like this weren’t real popular back in their heyday; I’d say there’s far less appeal for them now.
ND at any price. This stands out as one of the few cars Hoovie couldn’t successfully save, no matter how much money he threw at it. These Alpinas are cool as can be, but they have a relatively short expected lifespan.
Let this be a lesson.....Drive the damn thing from CO to NV, properly enjoy it.
When inputting the part number, they made a mistake on a single digit. That single digit was enough to place the order for the Viper V10.
I will buy it and make something crazier and more dangerous than Dodge ever dreamed of making.
It’s funny how our expectations change. In this era of Hellcat motors putting out 700+hp, getting only 400hp from an 8L V10 seems almost quaint.
