It’s good to know in case your car doesn’t, but I believe most cars A/C automatically starts when the defrost is on.

Defrost is what you want to clear windshields.  On many/most cars if you turn on the Defrost you’re getting AC whether the car controls tell you that or not. That’s a good thing because the AC dehumidifies the air.
