I didn’t say it was a great movie. I just think it’s better than AOTC or ROTS. for me, ROTS is borderline unwatchable.

My hot take at parties is that Phantom Menace is the best prequel. For a number of reasons: 1) puppet Yoda, 2) Liam Neeson is awesome, 3) Darth Maul is awesome, 4) it spawned an unforgettable computer game in pod racing, and while it was a bit silly it was a great set piece, 5) The “Duel of the Fates” music cue is the…
It’s not “justice” if the comics don’t get made into another movie. There’s 25 years of source material and if they’re that good, they can be enjoyed as comics and everyone can love them in that way. There’s no obligation or need to see this stuff on the big screen. If anything, films should avoid retreading source…
Go for Papa Palpatine!
I didn’t like Big Fish, so Mars Attacks maybe? Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd and Frankenweenie are all right. But the last movie to really feel like a super special Tim Burton experience with all the magic in the right spot is probably Ed Wood. And that isn’t even very Burtony. When you look at his career it’s like 5…
It sounds like Mira Sorvino’s wonderful voice for playing Romy White. I keep waiting for Holmes to ask they have a special for businesswomen.
Like it or not, CBS All Access is making good moves here. What happened was a bunch of Trekkies like me subbed to watch Star Trek Discovery, but then promptly unsubbed when the season was over. They got the message and are ramping up the content to keep the Trekkie bump year round. This show, the Picard show, the…
His voice was so off!
Phantom Menace was the best prequel. Fight me.
I’m a native Spanish speaker (from Argentina). I am totally fine with Tony Kushner doing crappy Spanish in his early rough drafts of this script. At this point he’s just trying to make sure the beats of the scenes and character arcs are working. Many screenwriters do crappy versions of their own dialogue knowing…
Maybe it wasn’t time for that yet. If it’s an early early rough of the draft just to get the beats of the story down, it’s assumed that eventually the Spanish will be fixed by people in the know.
I actually really liked the 90's miniseries. It was hampered by having to be on TV but a lot of the tone, vibe, and the casting was pitch perfect - Matt Frewer as the Trashcan Man? They’ll never top that.
I just got mine and it’s bonkers great. If you liked the old pocket, this new one is just like the old one but with all the sucky things removed. It’s great for advanced students who need a film-like experience. The old pocket was like shooting on a handheld 16mm camera. This is like shooting on a studio-quality super…
Do you only eat whole unprocessed foods? Do you only eat things that are the pure essence of what they are? The idea that food should not “masquerade” is a standard that is only held to vegetarian dishes. Omnivores will grind up any sort of bug or hoof or whatever to make chemical molecular gastronomy powders in order…
As a teacher (not of music but of other arts) one thing I try to do when a kid wants to quit is to at least have the conversation of 1) what is the thing that drew you to the activity (or instrument in this case) in the first place, that made it fun to learn, etc and then 2) why is that joy no longer there, and is…
My wife’s family had like 4 different aunts and uncles who smoked relentlessly. We couldn’t do anything anywhere because they needed to smoke all the time. We couldn’t play a card game at home because every 20 minutes they’d take a smoke break.
I agree. It depends on the film of course, but so many times sequels try to expand the world and lose sight of what made the original so great. This isn’t a movie meant to expand the worldbuilding, this is a return to a place you remembered. And that’s ok.
Right so the problem is that folks like Michael Bay and Zack Snyder can make bad movie after bad movie and they continue getting work, getting promoted, being put in charge of big IP’s as producers. It takes a pretty massive fuck-up to get them kicked off of a franchise.
I tried these in a demo at SXSW and the tech is pretty awesome. You hear it as if you’re hearing it from decent headphones but they don’t cover your ears (which feels WILD when you realize it) and people around you can barely hear them at all. Great for audio tours, but man I would also 100% wear these as sunglasses…
Who said that games have to imitate real life? Real life is chaotic, meandering, and doesn’t have themes or meaning. Stories, video games, and other art forms are structured and have purpose. Whether that’s narrative or not is beside the point. You still need structure.
