...and as a result, more kids get to go to college for free. With the exception of top level programs in football and basketball (and to a lesser extent baseball) where the focus is on finding pro-quality players more than education, the sports systems at the university level are pretty much a big fat scholarship fund

Yes, the Fleischer Superman cartoons had sound effects and even dialogue - they were pretty first-rate when they came out, and they cost a lot of money to make. They're truly lovely.

I may have these two films flipped, but IIRC the first sync sound in a cartoon was sync music in "Skeleton Dance," by Disney

That depends on the cartoon. The Fleischer Superman cartoons were in color, as were some of the Disney Silly Symphonies (the first color cartoon was a Disney called "Flowers and Trees"), and of course Snow White is in color. Color was used in these cartoons all throughout the 40's and 50's because the place to watch

Got my tickets for their Austin show this morning, bought the album too on vinyl. I love being an adult sometimes.

Not voice activated though. If Nova could integrate Google Now the way Kitkat does I'd switch immediately. I use the voice Google all the time, and I swipe left to Now all the time too.

Oh I don't. The OP just asked us not to say anything terrible, so I did the opposite. :)

He was involved with "Blurred Lines."

Another lindy hopping couple (I actually went to college with the guy) at 1:30pm ish

Switched to AIO two months ago. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. Love my Samsung Galaxy Express phone, love the coverage, love the plan, love.

My wife and I use it as our standard frying/high heat oil. We use the TJ's brand. It has a super high smoke point like grapeseed, doesn't impart any flavor at all, and is just really really solid. We don't do a lot of deep frying or anything, but it's really strong for stir frys or light pan frying. We love it.

My friend Laurel drew this:

Sorry, but when I'm in the mood to set up a friend with a total asshole, I go for the free LASIK instead:

I hear what you're saying. Most emergencies are sub 1K emergencies - a small car repair, etc. If you have medical benefits from your employer this is especially true, because medical bills might not destroy you. But yeah, most emergencies do not require half a year of income. Maybe a few K just to be truly safe.

Langer's Deli in Los Angeles on Sunset and Alvarado. The best pastrami in the US. Yes, better than the legends in NYC. The rye bread alone is transcendent.

Given that he's a decent swing dancer and would therefore already be familiar with the concepts of frame, counterbalance, etc. that you need for most dances, I would have hoped that they could amp up the routine to make use of his abilities. But someone with zero dance experience could have done this routine, and that

A lot of people, like myself, feel like that's the worst option. Debit purchasing is easy. There's no pain involved in spending money because a 1 dollar transaction is the same as a 100 dollar transaction - you swipe the card, enter the pin, or whatever, done.

Bill Nye is actually a decently accomplished swing dancer in the Los Angeles scene. He's out all the time dancing up a storm, being the nice guy he is. Not sure how the transition to ballroom will go (it's usually very difficult for swing dancers to change their habits like that) but it's something.

The same thing you do when your kids lied to you twenty years ago - you devise appropriate consequences for their behavior. Not snooping is not the same as letting them do anything they want. It's not like the parents of previous generations had no recourse.

To each his own - I just think there's more to raising a kid than that. I want the kid to be able to make good decisions when they have their own life, both about their own privacy and about the privacy of others. As such, I'd rather model a respect for privacy in my house so that they know what the best practices are
