At any Indian jewelry shop. It's a pretty common piece of jewelry for fancy Indian occasions. It's just too bad that Jezebel decided to make a racist reference of it when pointing out.

Thank you thank you thank you for pointing this out. It's too bad that this thread will never get out of the greys but despite being a movie reference, holy crap, racist much?!?

I agree with you. It seems particularly disingenuous in light of all the love that Lena Dunham and Girls receives. WoC can do no right in the eyes of Jezebel! ;)

I don't necessarily disagree with you but I have a quick point of clarification. Mindy Lahiri is not an Indian on the show, nor, I think, would Mindy Kaling identify as one. She's an American, who happens to be of Indian descent. So you could call her Indian-American. But to call her just Indian is inaccurate.

This isn't gonna get out of the grays. But still. I understand the need for short snappy headlines, but given the amount of stigmatization that individuals experiencing mental health issues continue to face, can we please not call the professionals they see shrinks? There are so many better, more professional, more

I'm surprised that the official WH caption doesn't included that she is doing this as part of the White House's Diwali celebration. Don't get me wrong, I love Bollywood, but including it as part of the Diwali celebration seems inappropriate. Whichever staffer organized this didn't research it well enough and

I don't know that she had much choice. Bollywood dance is pretty damn hard to do in shoes!

Haha. Well, I guess I've never really been known to be fashion forward. ;) I don't mind other shades of the red family, but I am definitely partial to bright colors. So if she was doing pink, why not a deep, rich rani color?

Now playing

Hahahaha. Yes. This. Exactly this. So much this! The responses to MrMister had me laughing like a maniac! Speaking of ads, have you seen this one? Not jewelry, but Desi, an oldy but goody.

I'm Hindu too and I loved everything about this...except for the pale pink sari. I totally get that its her second wedding and she may not be going all out and what not, but come on, brides should be in red!!

I agree whole heartedly. Priyanka definitely rubs me the wrong way, although I can't quite figure out why. And I agree that she has little to do with her B'wood successes. Something about her feels just so artificial and off.

I agree wholeheartedly!! In a country full of so much talent, it's sad that she even gets such a platform for her so-called singing!

Mainstream Hinduism/Sanatan Dharma considers Brahma as the creator. Brahma, creator; Vishnu, preserver; Shiva/Mahesh, destroyer. The trio keeps the world goin round.

I can't speak for all Indian brides, but I imagine that a large number are culturally, if not practicing, Hindu. The saris/lahengas they wear are the norm for Hindu ceremonies. I would imagine that your Korean and other Asian friends are likely Christian, and thus, go the route of the white wedding dress.

And to

Actually, many Hindus believe Kali, Durga and Parvati to be different facets of the very same deity.

I'm really hoping someone will pull this fact check out of the gray: At its origin, Yoga is a Hindu practice that originated in present-day India. India and the Middle East are two very different places. Please don't lump them together! Yoga's roots have no connection with the Middle East!
