These days, “Do you make your sandwiches with bread?” is a valid question. There are too many places that follow the fad of using pretzel buns for everything.

Honestly I would have interpreted that as “do you make your sandwiches with sliced bread [as opposed to rolls, baguettes, bagels, etc. etc.]”

The only way this lady can be forgiven is if the menu was worded ambiguously, i.e. Skirt Steak Sandwich with Caesar Salad could be read as exactly that. Yes, 99 out of 100 people will not envision a sandwich with salad on it.

It may be that the question was badly worded. I could see myself brain cramping and asking the same question in the same silly way when what I really meant by the word “bread” was shorthand for slices of bread as opposed to kaiser rolls or baguettes or ciabatta, etc. Then again, I’d also be smart enough to understand…
