A loi 101 baby like me, huh? I did think his “tabarnak” was really dead on. :) I may rewatch the sketch with all this in mind. Maybe I was too baffled by it to really listen the first time.

My own? My English is un-accented, unless you count the Montreal English accent an accent, which you can. My French is slightly accented.

Update: I was just informed that Bowen Yang grew up just outside of Montreal. That helps that whole thing make a little more sense. And why his was the only semi-decent Quebecois accent there.

My Quebecoise self was mostly puzzled by it. Who wrote this? Who did they write it for? And then they went and made fun of Montreal bagels, which everyone knows are the best. Sacrilege.

Coup de foudre” is more like “Love at first sight.

I don’t know that I have a moral problem with them, but I can say I wouldn’t likely sit through six seasons of those stories either

Your point is taken, and it’s in part why I’ve never been able to get through the Sopranos. See also: Joe Rogan’s podcast. But I think you either need to work really hard to make Jojo Rabbit fall into this category. And if this particular material can be considered sensitive material and a tricky story to tell, which

Agreed. I wonder if she’s seen any other of Waititi’s movies. There’s no way the writer-director of “Boy” or “Hunt for Wilderpeople” is putting out a movie expecting an audience to sympathize with Nazis.

If, by chance, you’re Canadian, all three seasons of Documentary Now! are available on CBC Gem.

Because it’s no-lose for Michaels. Whatever eventually happens with this hire, retain or fire, SNL is being covered all over the media just before the debut of the season. Like you said, over 30 years of experience. Lorne Michaels knew what he was doing.

I hear you.

6'1" here, and I remember that Geena Davis bit! I can’t remember what sitcom it was from, but I remember she and some dude talking at maybe a bar, hitting it off, until they both stood up. It made such an impression on my young mind. I don’t have a comment except I’m so pleased someone else remembers this. :)

I always thought if Empire was smart, they’d just go all in and write the Jamal character a storyline mirroring what Smollett did. Now that would be shameless, but I bet it’d get ratings.

So of course I had to look it up. :) Thanks for the head’s up.

This is late and it will be in the greys, but it’s such a weird memory, I feel like sharing. This isn’t an urban legend for my hometown per se, it was specific to my apartment complex growing up, but I have no idea where it started. It was always just a thing.

I want this cross-stitched and framed.

No, why did they do that? Is there bad blood between Conan and SNL?

I got off the Adam Sandler fan-bus years ago, decades ago even, but I gotta admit, trotting out all his ancient chestnuts totally won me over. Although I’ll likely go back to not following anything he puts out now.
