Less peak power, much less area-under-the-curve, and much less torque. Mechanically simpler though for sure.

"the mechanic didn't have presence of mind to plug in a scanner "
The 1ZZ is a horrid crapbox of an engine. When it came to the 2ZZ, Toyota actually put forth some effort and they are great.
My 1988 MR2 Supercharged and 1986 Cressida wagon share my daily driving duties. Most of the time it's awesome, as I detailed in this post.
Fun fact: the last generation Celica GTS was one of the best cars in its class for autocross until the Mini came out and everyone forgot about it.
Hey Doug, I live in Richmond and have seen Japanese Classics at many local events. They bring some crazy awesome stuff over! If you pick the car up in RVA, you should bring it by Cars and Coffee Richmond.
It has both port and direct injection like an FRS/BRZ
Terry in Richmond?
I was going to guess Phoenix is the US Focus RS and the Hummingbird is a Fiesta RS
I've lived in VA my whole life and never once gotten a ticket *knocks on wood*
"4 door sports car"
The 91-92 MR2's have short rear toe arms that induce toe-out under braking/lift off. In 93+ they changed the subframe so the toe arms were longer to reduce toe change. This made them less prone to lift-off oversteer.
Nah, 16valve 4A-G with side draft carbs and cams!
The RB26 is a magnificent engine, but unfortunately they are nowhere near as stout out of the box as the 2J. The RB's are pretty highly strung from the factory with some room to grow, but to really compete with a 2J you need much more work on an RB.
The FRS fuel door and hood release are the same place as every Toyota since 1970. Just saying.
I take the "230 horsepower" thing with a grain of salt. Is that wheel or crank? The FRS supposedly makes "200 horsepower" and in the real world, only puts down around 150-160 at the wheels.
The answer is always goddamn Miata
The SW20 wouldn't translate well to the lines of Group B cars, but they did do some road racing with the SARD MR2
While it is a tube frame car with essentially no mechanical similarity to the AW11 MR2, it does have the floor, front fire wall, roof, and c-pillar section, basically the passenger cell IS a modified AW11 chassis. Not bad.
Oh hey that's Zach. I've seen that guy drive in person several times at Summit Point.
