Is there better way to spend a hot, humid weekend than in the garage with your friends, wrenching on a racecar project? I submit that there is not. This time the project at hand is an S13 track car that is in need of more room for race rubber, and revised low-speed aero for autocross.
In anticipation for my first HPDE day in August, I got a oil pan baffle kit for the 4AGE in the Corolla. If you’re unfamiliar, basically these little trap doors only allow oil to flow towards the pickup, preventing the oil from sloshing away under hard cornering (like what you’d see with sticky tires at the track) and…
I know forums as a medium are a dying breed, but does anyone know of any forum that is not make/model specific but deals with track car setup? Specifically things like safety system setup and design. Think fire suppression systems, seat/harness mounting, cage design, aero, etc.
After a very successful trackcross event, a few small issues made themselves known that needed to be addressed.
Hopefully this isn’t a repost, but the tall man is back!
I’ve been looking at 00-09-ish Outbacks to replace my Matrix as a daily in the next year or so, and I have some questions.
... since I bought my first and favorite car. The adventures, friendships, trips, races, and memories this car has been there for are some of the most valuable things in my life. It may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid. Here’s to 10 more years.
After a miserably cold and wet March, an odd 80* day calls for some porch time. This lovely DIPA is a local brew by Triple Crossing, and part of the “hazy NEIPA” trend in craft beer. I absolutely love these juicy, silky-smooth beers!
It’s astounding how much pain and suffering one bolt can add to an otherwise simple task. In this case that job was removing control arms to install polyurethane bushings. However the little captive nut inside the chassis decided it didn’t like being captive any more and just spun with the bolt, requiring some…
With the driver’s seat now safely mounted in place, I decided it was time to start playing with some aero.
This was an absolute blast! I can’t wait for the next one.
Bring on autocross season!
A couple local breweries are really getting into the hazy DIPA thing and I’m so about it. Triple Crossing Brewing - Cryo Nectar. 8% ABV DIPA
Made a shoe-string-budget splitter from an old alumacore sign, lawn edging, self-tapping screws, rivets, and scrap metal mounts. I’m still looking for some struts to secure the front, but I think it’s turned out pretty nicely!
When we last left off, the transmission was on the floor to replace the clutch.
This is what came out when I removed the fender liner and started poking around with a screwdriver.
all many of my favorite motorsports documentaries are on Amazon Prime. The “Killer Years” series which covers F1, Group B, and Moto GP, “1", and “Senna” are all on there and I had no idea. So is “Rush”, “The Man and Le Mans”, and “Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman”.
I caught him by tossing a bandanna in the air. Poor little guy wouldn’t fly away when I tried to release him outside, it was so cold. Now I’m playing phone tag with different places locally to figure out what to do with him.
What makes a car a good daily driver? Is it comfort? Fuel economy? Is it dependent on the amount of stuff and/or passengers it can carry? Is reliability the most important aspect? Everyone has different priorities of course. When I was looking to retire my MR2 from daily driving duties, there were a few key features…
