Yeah I grew up with Oprah and used to absolutely LOVE her. Can’t count the number of times in high school or college we cried watching her. Now I realize that if I were to go back and watch the episodes I was so moved by, I’d probably be disgusted.

Oprah is a shameless opportunist and it is about time she was called out for it. She preys on society’s most vulnerable members and feeds them consumerist pablum as way to ‘fix’ their problems.

I’ve been a bit surprised by the reaction to Doctor Phil. Like, this was the final straw? When did people hear about Dr. Phil? Yesterday? He’s been a piece of shit for a long, long time. Whatever other gifts she has, Oprah has consistently shown herself to be a fairly poor judge of character.

They probably have been maintaining it - but the technology (electric, heating, plumbing) is not something you can just overhaul as you go in a historic landmark. It’s stuff that reaches end of life at about 60 years no matter what. It’s also obsolete by now.
